THE Selayang wholesale market will resume operations tomorrow after sanitation works despite being in an area under an enhanced movement-control order (EMCO).
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said the market must still adhere to MCO operating hours
An EMCO on the area was announced on Monday amid confusion for vegetable traders and wholesalers, as the market was locked down with barbed wire surrounding it even as government ministers said it would be opened.
It caused vegetable traders to scramble for alternatives to distribute their produce as the wholesale market is the main trading hub supplying supermarkets and grocers around the Klang Valley.
Annuar also said sanitation works have been completed and he expects everyone to comply with clean hygiene and social distancing when the market re-opens.
“We only closed the market for four days, until Thursday, so that sanitation works can be carried out at the wholesale market.”
Six parcels of land surrounding the market have been placed under EMCO until May 3.
Annuar said about 17,000 residents and workers in the area will be screened for Covid-19. – April 23, 2020.
