A NEW Covid 19 cluster comprising of 43 students returning from Temboro, Indonesia, has been identified and contained, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
According to Noor Hisham, the cases came to light when the students arrived back in Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on April 16.
Temboro, is part of the Magetan district, which has been declared a red zone.
“From the total, 34 have been quarantined in Malacca, while nine are in Putrajaya,” he said.
Noor Hisham said this showed the government’s decision to quarantine and screen all Malaysians returning from overseas was correct.
“This is to ensure that imported cases do not spread to other members of the public,” he said.
More than 100 students have returned from the district, of which 43 have tested positive.
Noor Hisham said there are 89 quarantine stations housing 11,725 who have returned from overseas.
Of that total, 8410 samples have been taken and 65 came back positive.
Noor Hisham said in addition to the 43 students from the Temboro cluster, three had returned from Acheh, one from Turkey and one Kalimantan. – April 19, 2020.
