FORMER PKR deputy youth chief Afif Bahardin has been suspended from the party, a source said.
The former Penang exco, who is a supporter of ex-deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, is the latest to be suspended after Women’s wing chief Haniza Talha a few days ago.
“Haniza has been informed while Afif has not received his letter yet,” the party source told The Malaysian Insight.
PKR disciplinary board chairman Ahmad Kassim confirmed Afif’s suspension, but added that queries on party members should be directed to secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Saifuddin Nasution has not responded to calls and messages from The Malaysian Insight.
Afif, the Seberang Jaya assemblyman, told The Malaysian Insight he had heard of talk that he will be sacked.
“To date, I have not received any official news about my status in the party.
In early March, Afif quit his Penang exco post in charge of health, agriculture and agro-based industry and rural development.
He said his move was due to pressure from the PKR state and national leadership.
Afif was then said to have joined the International Trade and Industry Ministry as an officer to Azmin, who is the minister.
Haniza’s suspension, meanwhile, effective April 6, was purportedly over a meeting in February she had with Azmin and another former PKR leader, Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Azmin and Zuraida were sacked from PKR in late February for participating in a plot against the party and the Pakatan Harapan coalition, which lost federal power as a result in early March.
Disciplinary board chairman Ahmad yesterday said PKR is in the process of purging errant members as part of its rejuvenation plan.
Ahmad said the party leadership had agreed that to revive PKR, errant members had to be suspended or stripped of certain posts.
About 500 members will be affected by this decision, Ahmad added. – April 18, 2020.
