THE Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) is rolling out a nationwide door-to-door delivery service to make it easier for consumers to buy seafood during the movement-control order (MCO) period.

Its director-general, Raja Khalid Raja Ariffin, in a statement today said the cash-on-delivery initiative is the result of a collaboration with 44 fishermen’s associations.

The public can place their orders online at www.nekmatbiz.com.my, he said.

“The initiative to market fish directly to consumers will hopefully reduce congestion at markets and curb the spread of Covid-19.

“I urge the public not to panic-buy fish. There is sufficient supply at fishermen’s markets and controlled fresh markets.”

He said LKIM will also sell fishermen’s catch on the Shopee platform.

Raja Khalid added that there are 185,000 metric tonnes of fish stock in the market now, more than the monthly average of 155,000 metric tonnes.

During the MCO period, 64 LKIM fishermen’s markets are operating with health and safety procedures in place, he said.

“These markets are open from morning till noon. Security control is provided by LKIM enforcers with the help of Rela, police and the armed forces.”

He said during the MCO period, fishermen’s markets recorded 62,887 customers with sales of RM2.55 million. – Bernama, April 17, 2020.
