ALMOST all incumbents were retained in the PAS elections, as members reiterated their support for a leadership which has made the party more conservative and combative against their former allies.

All three vice-presidents – Idris Ahmad, Iskandar Abdul Samad and Mohamad Amar Abdullah – were retained when the party announced results of the elections in Alor Star, Kedah, today.

Idris polled 1,062 votes, Amar (950) and Iskandar (703). The newcomer for the V-P race Nashruddin Hassan garnered 478 votes.

The vice-president’s race became the most-watched contest after the party’s top two, president Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, won uncontested.

Of the 18 central committee posts up for grabs, 14 were filled with incumbents. Some of the well-known ones are Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki, Nik Mohd Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Mokhtar Senik.

The results were announced by PAS party elections director Wan Abdul Mutalib Embong at the Kedah PAS headquarters in Kota Sarang Semut.

The elections this year were extraordinary in that almost all senior posts in the central committee as well as in its three wings – Ulama, Muslimat and Youth – were won uncontested. – May 1, 2017.
