THE Health Ministry said that the movement control order (MCO) by the government is showing results with a lesser number of Covid-19 positive cases being recorded.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today the cases have dropped to 85.

“The reports of positive cases across the country have decreased,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

“For example, cases in Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Kelantan and Terengganu have dropped.

“We are still focusing on Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan.

“We now have 28 small clusters and we are focusing on these clusters,” he said.

Noor Hisham said Malaysia has 85 new Covid-19 cases today, while it has also discharged 169 patients – almost double the number of new cases reported.

This brings the total recoveries to 2,647, which translates to 52.2% of the total number of cases.

Meanwhile, there have been 5,072 infections in total.

One more person died today, bringing the death toll to 83.

Noor Hisham said fewer cases had been reported during phase one and phase two of the MCO.

“This is the results of the MCO. If we look at the increase (in cases) in last few days.

“This is because we have implemented the enhanced movement control order and conducted active case tracing.”

He said one of their achievements is entering the suspected areas or hotspots that have a high number of cases and conduct active case detection, tests and isolation.

“We have successfully managed to identify the positive cases. When we have succeeded in identifying the cases then there is an increase.

“This is not sporadic cases, but active case detection where there is a slight increase.

“The increase is from 190 to more than 200. We don’t have cases that, for example, are 300.” – April 15, 2020.
