New ‘Bali’ cluster identified in Kuantan, says Health D-G

Health authorities have detected a new 'Bali' cluster in Kuantan, which started from an individual who recently travelled to the tourist destination. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, April 13, 2020.

A NEW Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Bali cluster, has been detected in Kuantan.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdulah said the cluster comprised 20 persons under investigation and a few healthcare professionals who were screened at a medical centre in Kuantan.

“The index case (case 4,684) had a travel history to Bali, Indonesia. 

“The patient then had close contact with case 1,575 (who is the brother of the index case),” he said.

Patient 1,575 went on to infect seven people in the second generation and 11 in the third.

Noor Hisham said 339 close contacts to the cluster have been identified through screenings. This, he said, included 202 health personnel.

Malaysia reported 134 new infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of cases in the country to 4,817.

However, there were also more recoveries with 168 patients discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,276.

One patient also died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 77 deaths. – April 13, 2020.
