THE movement-control order (MCO) is showing some signs of containing the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia, based on the total number of active versus projected cases, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The director-general of health said active cases as of today number 2,462, which are receiving treatment in isolation, and this is not far off from a previous Health Ministry projection of 2,033 active cases by April 14.
“This is a sign that the first and second phases of the MCO have reduced Covid-19 infections.
“We advise the public to continue assisting the government in efforts to break the chain of Covid-19 infections by staying at home and practising social distancing of at least 1m and to regularly wash their hands,” he said at the daily press briefing on Covid-19 today.
The number of new infections has also stayed below 200 since April 3, when there were 217 new cases.
Malaysia registered 184 new Covid-19 infections today, bringing the total number to 4,530.
Except for today, the number of recoveries has been exceeding new cases in the last three days.
According to data released today, Kuala Lumpur saw 46 new infections over the past 24 hours, followed by Selangor (35), Pahang (27), Johor (21) and Negri Sembilan (17).
On the other end, Perlis and Kedah saw no new infections. Terengganu and Perak saw one new infection each while Kelantan, Putrajaya and Labuan saw two new infections each. – April 11, 2020.
