A CIVIL Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) board member appointed by Pakatan Harapan today confirmed his removal by the present government.

Former president of the Malaysian Bar Ragunath Kesavan said the Transport Ministry terminated both he and Afzal Abdul Rahim on April 8.

“No reason was given,” he told The Malaysian Insight today.

“Only plausible reason is that we were appointed by former minister Anthony Loke,” he said.

Afzal is also the chief executive officer of broadband service provider TIME dotCom, and an independent board member of the CIMB Group and a licensed FAA commercial pilot.

An officer from Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong’s office also confirmed the termination to The Malaysian Insight.

The matter was brought to light by Loke in a Facebook post yesterday.

He described the duo as “professionals and not a member of any political parties related to Pakatan Harapan”.

Loke said Afzal refused to accept an allowance for his board duties and had served the body on a pro bono basis as it was a form of national service to him.

Ragunath came on board later to fill the need for a member with a strong legal background.

The duo’s removal is part of Perikatan Nasional’s purge of all PH appointees in government agencies and statutory bodies. – April 10, 2020.

  • Most disgraceful. If these people are appointed based on their political affiliations then removing them would seem logical. But these are professionals and have been removed so that the Minister can put in the people to do his bidding. This back door government that has not shown itself to have majority support yet is acting big with the ministers like Wee Ka Siong shamelessly doing exactly what they have done in the past, for which they were shown the door. This time he will be shown the door for sure for this bad acts in bad faith. The people will remember. When in the opposition, he needlessly threw the spanner into everything the new govt was trying to do. Did the opposition now do the same to the present govt for all their blunders? This bunch of people must learn how to be responsible opposition because they can't make a good government.
