A 23-YEAR-OLD Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) student is the 13th person to die of the Covid-19 virus in Sarawak.
She is also the youngest Covid-19 fatality in the country to date.
In a statement today, the state Disaster Management Committee said the student, living in Kota Samarahan, was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching on March 30 after she complained of breathing difficulties and taken straight to intensive care.
She died at 9.42am today.
Both her parents are also positive for Covid-19, the committee said.
In Putrajaya earlier, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the student was linked to the “church cluster” in Kuching, one of the state’s three major Covid-19 clusters.
She is among the fifth generation of those infected from the cluster, Noor Hisham had said.
In Sarawak, there were six cases detected today, with 312 infected overall, since the first case was detected on March 13.
Five of the new cases have been admitted to SGH, while one was receiving treatment in Bintulu Hospital. – April 9, 2020.
