THE police have fined 95 offenders with RM1,000 fine each for flouting the movement control order (MCO), said Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

This comes as the authorities moved away from prosecuting and jailing people defying the MCO after receiving widespread criticism.

The defence minister said those found flouting the MCO will be taken to the police station before being given a compound.

“The payment must be settled at the district health office within two weeks of the date of issue.

“Anyone who fails to pay the compound will be brought to court,” he said during the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Yesterday, Bukit Aman’s internal security and public order director Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said people defying the MCO will face a compound of at least RM1,000.

He said police received the compound forms last week, and offenders will have to settle their dues at Health Ministry offices.

According Bukit Aman statistics, the most number of summon notices was issued in Selangor (23), followed by Perlis (21) and Negri Sembilan (15).

Sarawak had seven offenders, followed by Kedah (eight), Perak (six), Penang (five), Malacca and Kelantan with four each, and Pahang (two). – April 9, 2020.
