THE governments of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have been informed of their citizens under lockdown at the Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion flats on Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said Putrajaya will cooperate with the respective embassies regarding the enhanced movement-control order (MCO) imposed on the two blocks of flats, home to many from the three countries.
The flats were placed under enhanced MCO today after 15 residents contracted Covid-19.
“Representatives from the respective countries will be present at the ministry’s security meetings.
“We will work with them to relay information on the enhanced MCO to the residents there,” Annuar said during a live telecast after a site visit today.
Information will be communicated through loud hailers in multiple languages, he added.
A total of 90 people were tested for Covid-19 yesterday, with a further 300 today. So far, 15 tested positive, he said.
Annuar said initial reports showed some units were overcrowded, some with up to 30 people living in a unit. There are 160 units per block, with an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people residing at both blocks.
Annuar said overcrowding could become a major problem as workers normally leave the unit during their work shift while another group sleeps in.
“During the enhanced MCO, all will be at home,” he said.
He also said two residents who fled prior to the lockdown are advised to return to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Fire Department will jointly conduct sanitisation of common areas in the flats tomorrow, he added.
Meanwhile, Annuar said civil society groups and private firms are encouraged to donate food supplies such as rice, cooking oil, canned food flour to the residents.
Interested parties can contact the National Disaster Management Agency, Welfare Department or DBKL.
Enhanced MCO has been enforced in three other areas so far – Menara City One condominium tower in Kuala Lumpur, Sg Lui village in Hulu Langat as well as Kg Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Datuk Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam, Johor.
Menara City One condo is located less than a kilometre away from the two mansions.
The source of infections in Menara City One was from the tabligh cluster, said the Health Ministry previously. – April 7, 2020.
