ABOUT 17% of all new Covid-19 cases reported today were detected in areas under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) through active case detection, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said of the 179 new cases, 35 were from areas currently under the EMCO.
He said in Kluang, 12 new cases were reported, taking its total to 135.
He said 1,634 out of 3,755 residents there have been screened so far.
Dr Noor Hisham said in Hulu Langat, 14 new cases were found, taking its total to 328.
To date, he said 1,685 of 1,797 people residing in the area have been screened.
He said five new cases were detected at the Menara City One building in Kuala Lumpur.
This takes the total number of positive cases in the condominium with 1,893 residents to 24.
“The increase in the number of cases are due to active case detection in the three areas,” he told a press conference today.
Active case detection refers to health workers going door-to-door to collect samples from residents to test for the virus.
On a separate note, Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry was employing a targeted approach by screening high-risk groups linked to index cases instead of conducting mass screening to trace cases.
With the 179 new cases reported today, the national toll of positive cases stands at 3,662 while the number of fatalities thus far is 61. – April 5, 2020.
