CASES from the tabligh cluster have contributed to the high number of Covid-19 infections in Selangor, and have now spread to tahfiz schools and madrasahs, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The health director-general, in his daily press conference today, said Selangor has the highest number of cases at 863.
“Selangor has recorded a high number of cases. One of the causes is the tahfiz schools, and madrasahs (being linked) to the attendees of the tabligh event in Sri Petaling,” he said.
One of the red zones, Hulu Langat, which is currently under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO), today reported a total of 300 cases, up from 287 yesterday.
Of the 90 cases in Kg Sg Lui in Hulu Langat, 25 are from among the tabligh attendees while 65 cases were close contacts.
Forty-four from the tabligh cluster are being treated at Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM Hospital in Cheras. Among them are 41 students of a tahfiz school.
Dr Noor Hisham said the youngest patient is 14.
The cases were detected thanks to active screening by the ministry, especially in the EMCO zone, he said.
Malaysia’s 217 new cases today bring the total number of infections to 3,333.
The death toll now stands at 53 after three new fatalities. – April 3, 2020.
