Statistics Training Institute in Perak turned into quarantine centre

THE Statistics Training Institute in Sungkai, Perak, has been turned into a quarantine centre to house those who had close contact with Covid-19 patients from the Hilir Perak cluster, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“The purpose of quarantine stations is to isolate individuals who have a high risk of getting infected or infecting others to curb the spread of the disease,” Noor Hisham said in a Facebook post.

He said those quarantined will be placed in individual rooms with ensuite bathrooms and other necessities, such as Wifi, kettles, toiletries, hand sanitiser and forehead thermometer.

They will be provided with four meals a day and light refreshments. 

The medical team in charge will also monitor the individuals’ health daily.

“Any initial Covid-19 symptoms or other health problems will be detected early on and overcome immediately,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham added that the facility fits the bill for infectious disease control.

He also described it as a comfortable and enclosed space surrounded by greenery.

As of today, 176 people in Perak have been infected with Covid-19. Hilir Perak is one of the  red zones in the state with 53 cases yesterday.

Malaysia has enforced a movement control order since March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19. It was supposed to end on March 31, but it has been extended for another two weeks to April 14 in light of increasing Covid-19 infections.

To date, Malaysia has recorded 2,470 infections with 34 deaths. – March 29, 2020.
