THREE people from a family in Sarawak have died of Covid-19, in what is believed to be the first such case in the country.

On March 18, a 70-year-old woman died of Covid-19 at her home in Kuching. On March 21, her 40-year-old daughter died of the virus at Sarawak General Hospital.

Today, the older woman’s 49-year-old son died at Sarawak General Hospital. He was admitted on March 18, the day his mother died.

Also in Sarawak today, a 51-year-old Limbang woman died at Miri Hospital.

The woman contracted the virus after coming into close contact with a tabligh member who attended the gathering at Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur  more than three weeks ago.

She was admitted to Limbang Hospital on March 14 and was evacuated by air to the Miri Hospital the same day.

To date, 14 Malaysians have died of Covid-19, five of them are from Sarawak.

The state’s first death was a 60-year-old pastor from Kuching, who died on March 17.

The Health Ministry said 212 Covid-19 cases were recorded today – the highest number in a day –  bringing the total 1,518.

Most of the reported cases have been from the tabligh cluster, and the authorities are still looking for attendees to come for health screening. – March 23, 2020.
