Selayang paediatric ward closed after staff positive for Covid-19

Selayang Hospital has closed its paediatric ward after two of its staff members are positive for Covid-19. – Pic from Health DG office, March 21, 2020.

THE paediatric ward at the Selayang Hospital has been closed temporarily as two staff members have been tested positive for Covid-19.

Hospital director Sakinah Alwi said in a letter sighted by The Malaysian Insight that no new patients can be referred or admitted for the time being.

“We regretfully inform that two staffers from the Paediatric Department have been confirmed of Covid-19. Investigations are still ongoing

“On that note, the department has to temporarily close all paediatric wards. We will not receive any reference or admit new patients or discharge existing patients until we conclude further investigations.”

Meanwhile, the hospital’s Emergency and Trauma Department is told to refer paediatric cases to other hospitals.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told The Malaysian Insight that the wards have been closed for cleaning and disinfection.

Malaysia recorded 130 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total to 1,030, with three fatalities. – March 21, 2020.
