THE Federal Territories Ministry will evaluate the efficacy of the two-week movement control order before deciding if it will allow Ramadan bazaars, said minister Annuar Musa.
He said the issue will be discussed when the movement control order expires on March 31.
The movement control order was imposed by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on March 18 to curb the spread of the coronavirus which has so far infected 900 people with two deaths reported.
“We will take this up later. Let us evaluate the success of the present two-week exercise,” Annuar said.
“There is nothing more important than public health and safety,” he said at the Federal Territories National Security Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.
He was asked if Ramadan bazaars would be allowed in Malaysia amid the coronavirus pandemic, after Singapore recently announced that the iconic Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar will not be held in light of the need for social-distancing.
The month of Ramadan preceding Hari Raya is expected to begin on April 23. – March 20, 2020.
