MALAYSIA has enough medical supplies to deal with the second wave of coronavirus infections as the government warns of a long, drawn out battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Based on its current trend, this outbreak will continue for a long time; it will not end in the near future,” Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in a special live telecast on the virus outbreak tonight.
He assured Malaysians that the country’s stock of medical supplies was adequate to deal with virus, which has infected 175 individuals as of today. This is an increase of 39 positive cases from yesterday.
“I am given daily briefings by the Health Ministry’s special taskforce on Covid-19 and we take all the latest steps to deal with it,” Muhyiddin said.
“I have also been given the assurance that we have enough supplies to deal with the disease.”
The prime minister said that the government has added more health facilities to handle Covid-19 cases, including 26 hospitals all over the country.
“Collaborations have also been started with private hospitals, Defence Ministry hospitals and university hospitals to start accepting Covid-19 cases.
“Some 57 government hospitals and 170 clinics throughout the country will be able to screen for Covid-19.”
About 22 laboratories under the Health, Agriculture and Defence Miniatries are also being prepared to test for Covid-19. – March 13, 2020.
