THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission should investigate several ministers appointed to Prime Minister Muhiyiddin Yassin’s cabinet, said PKR strategic communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

According to Fahmi, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad released a list of MPs who supported him on February 29 and had signed statutory declarations to this effect.

“There are now some people on Dr Mahathir list who are in Muhiyiddin’s cabinet.

“The MACC should investigate whether anyone was induced to jump ship as cabinet positions come with perks.

“So now that list is out, perhaps MACC can compare lists and investigate these people,” he said

However, Fahmi could not recollect how many new ministers were on Dr Mahathir’s list.

“It could be three or four. All of the 114 MPs have signed statutory declarations, so the MACC must investigate these ministers.”

On February 29, Dr Mahathir had said the rival faction’s previous declaration about the number of MPs supporting Muhyiddin could not have the 112 names needed to form a simple majority government in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat.

“At this moment, I have 114 MPs supporting me as prime minister. I have prepared a letter for the king explaining this.

“I hope the king will accept my letter and my explanation, which I will send to him,” he had said.

Muhyiddin today unveiled his cabinet line-up, which does not have a deputy prime minister, but four co-ordinating ministers instead.

The Perikatan Nasional cabinet has members of Bersatu, Umno, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, as well independent lawmakers who followed former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali out of the party.

The four senior ministers are: Mohamed Azmin Ali (international trade and industry), Ismail Sabri Yaakob (defence), Fadillah Yusof (works) and Mohd Radzi Md Jidin (education). – March 9, 2020.
