GABUNGAN Parti Sarawak decided not to support Dr Mahathir Mohamad for prime minister because he was indecisive, Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg said

“He was flip-flopping. Initially we supported him,” Abang Johari, who is also GPS president, said in Bau today.

He said he conveyed GPS’ support for Dr Mahathir to continue leading the country, to the Yang DiPertuan Agong at Istana Negara on February 23.

Dr Mahathir resigned as prime minister and Bersatu chairman the next day, citing his rejection of his party’s plans to cooperate with Umno and PAS. He was appointed interim prime minister by the Agong.

GPS made the decision to back Muhyiddin instead when Dr Mahathir did not want to continue being prime minister and PH said it would nominate Anwar Ibrahim.

Dr Mahathir returned to the race to be the next PM when it became clear that Bersatu, Umno and PAS would back Muhyiddin for the post.

“Because he was indecisive, that’s why we supported Muhyiddin,” the chief minister told reporters at the border bazaar of Serikin in Bau after visiting the site of a new immigration, customs and quarantine (ICQ) complex.

The RM10 million complex is expected to be built this year.

The chief minister said Sarawak’s interests were unaffected by the switch.

“Our interests are upper most.”

Asked if Muhyiddin had offered GPS a better deal than what Dr Mahathir would,  he told reporters “I’ll tell you later”. – March 1, 2020.

  • GPS simply wants to continue the legacy of Taib. With UMNO and PAS as partners, you may go on screwing more Sarawakians.
