Pakatan MPs gather at Yayasan Al-Bukhary

Pakatan Harapan prime ministerial candidate Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to issue a statement later this morning on the coalitions plan to meet the Agong. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 1, 2020.

PAKATAN Harapan MPs and those aligned to the coalition began gathering at 7.30am at the Yayasan Al-Bukhary today.

The police motorcade escorting the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate Dr Mahathir Mohamad was seen entering the compound at 8.08am.

Selayang MP William Leong arrived around 8.06am.

Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh arrived in a bus with several other MPs at 8.16am.

As MPs continued to stream in for their 9am appointment, M. Kulasegaran said Dr Mahathir would issue a statement later on their plans.

“We have the numbers,” she told reporters before entering the building.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad and Jelutong MP RSN Rayer were said to have entered the building around 7.30am.

Last night Dr Mahathir revealed that he had the backing of 114 MPs and he is expected to present the statutory declaration of the MPs to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

At 10.30am today, Muhyiddin Yassin will be taking the oath of office as the eighth prime minister. 

The swearing-in ceremony before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will be aired live on television.

The Agong announced the appointment of the 72-year-old Pagoh MP and Bersatu president as the eighth prime minister yesterday, saying that the decision was made in line with Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the federal constitution. – March 1, 2020.
