67 dilapidated Sabah schools get RM260 million for repairs

THE Sabah Education and Innovation Ministry will address the problems of dilapidated schools, with RM260 million to be spent for repairs and rebuilding 67 such schools in the state this year.

Its minister, Dr Yusof Yacob, said there are seven categories of dilapidated schools.

Those in category seven are declared unsafe and cannot be used, he told reporters after handing over Cost of Living Aid (BSH) payments to recipients in Sipitang today.

He said of the 1,300 primary and secondary schools in Sabah, 590 fell in the dilapidated schools category.

Last year, he said RM100 million was allocated for repairs and rebuilding 24 dilapidated school buildings in the state.

Of the 24 schools, three are undergoing construction, namely  SK Tiong Wido, Tambunan, SK Nibang Pitas and SK Sungai-Sungai, Beluran, he added. – Bernama, February 27, 2020.
