PAKATAN Harapan in Sarawak will need to discuss new alignments after losing its number two, Baru Bian, while the state PKR chapter has also lost its chief.
PH state chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the coalition will meet soon to decide on the next course of action, after Baru quit PKR following the sacking of deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The latter was a key player in the weekend’s political manoeuvring, which led to the collapse of the PH government and Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as prime minister.
Besides Baru, who is Selangau MP, two other MPs – Ali Biju (Saratok) and Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo – have also quit and aligned themselves with Azmin.
Chong said their move was “regrettable” because it meant they would be aligning themselves with Umno and PAS.
He said they had betrayed PKR and the voters who supported them last election.
With their exit from the party, Chong said Sarawak PH would have to realign itself with the state PKR leadership.
Meanwhile, Sarawak PKR deputy chairman Baharuddin Mokshen told The Malaysian Insight today the leadership would meet soon to decide on changes to the state hierarchy.
“I can’t put a date to it just yet, because the political situation is still very fluid,” said Baharuddin, who is now acting Sarawak PKR chief following Baru’s departure.
However, sources, say the meeting could in fact break up Sarawak PKR as many of the division leaders are pro Azmin. – February 25, 2020.
