PKR had some nagging questions about Adam Rosly’s wealth even before he was hauled up by the authorities, said the party’s youth chief, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

“Since last year, we were aware and concerned about his luxurious lifestyle. When party members asked, how he inherited such wealth, they were told that he got the money from inheritance and he had a successful furniture business,” Nik Nazmi told The Malaysian Insight, adding that the youth movement had asked that Ampang branch youth chief be suspended till he is cleared of corruption charges.

Nazmi said they did not see any reason to further press Adam about his wealth because he wasn’t holding any position in government or government-linked companies.

“He is not an MP or assemblyman. So, we didn’t need to question him further,” he said.

Their suspicions on Adam’s wealth only became clearer when he was charged at the KL Sessions Court with giving false statements and forging documents handed to MACC officers during investigations into his personal wealth in February.

Adam is currently out on bail of RM300,000.

Nazmi said that Adam should have come out earlier with a clear explanation on the source of his wealth as requested by the party’s top leaders.

“The situation has changed now as he has been charged. He should have answered all the questions that were raised.

“However, he declined to furnish us with details and this has tarnished the image of PKR Youth.”

Nazmi also said party members were not afraid of being investigated.

“If there is any issue, we will take swift action to resolve the matter. That’s what differentiates us from Umno.”

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli on Tuesday had said that Adam should go on “leave” from his party duties or face the party’s disciplinary board.

He had said that Adam’s case was being used to tarnish PKR’s image and the party should move to distance itself from him.

Adam’s wealth came under scrutiny after Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos questioned how he was able to own a castle-style bungalow in Ampang at such a young age.

Adam claimed that he had amassed his wealth through business ventures and inheritance from his family. – April 28, 2017.
