ALTHOUGH PAS is part of the Selangor government, this did not stop a PAS Youth delegate from the state from demanding that his party end ties with political ally PKR.
In fact Shukri Omar also castigated PKR’s Azmin Ali, who is menteri besar, for insulting ulama (Muslim scholars) of the Islamist party.
Shukri also slammed Selangor-based PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who recently claimed that money siphoned from 1MBD had been transferred to an individual linked to PAS.
“I warn Rafizi that if he is man enough, contest again in Pandan (parliamentary seat) and face our members.
“I warn Azmin Ali that if not for the support of our people, he would only be a first term assemblyman (in Bukit Antarabangsa),” Shukri told the PAS Youth assembly in Alor Star, Kedah today.
Rafizi is a first term MP for Pandan. Azmin’s state seat of Bukit Antarabangsa is in the heart of Gombak, which has traditionally been a PAS stronghold.
Azmin drew fire in March for a sarcastic tweet towards, observers believe, PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz.
“I warn Azmin Ali, without our support, this will be his last term,” said Shukri.
PAS has three officials in the Selangor government’s line-up despite refusing to have ties with Pakatan Harapan, the opposition coalition that rules the state. PH consists of PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu.
PAS has formed a third opposition bloc called Gagasan Sejahtera with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia.
But strained ties have led PAS officials to demand the party cut relations with PKR. This muktamar is expected to decide on whether that will happen.
“Although the final decision is up to the syura council, we want the party to split with PKR.
“Instead, I want to invite PKR leaders who are still our friends to persuade their party to come and join us in Gagasan Sejahtera,” said Shukri. – April 28, 2017.
