THE prototype of the third national car is ready, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We have already produced a prototype but have not exhibited it to the public,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020 today.
“We are working on the controls now to make sure that our car becomes sensitive to this environment and reacts in order to help the driver to not make any mistakes,” he said.
Putrajaya is currently seeking private investors for the project as the government won’t be forking out the investment.
“We have the capacity but we need investments,” he said.
“We are asking the private sector to come in and produce cars that are not only meant for Malaysia but other countries.”
The government is seeking investors with foresight on the future use of motor vehicles, he added.
“We are ready with the technologies that will make the new national car competitive and of the standard that is found in other parts of the world.”
It was announced last year that DreamEdge Sdn Bhd will be the anchor company to drive the third national car project.
Dr Mahathir said Malaysia is also open to collaborating with foreign companies for the development of new national cars under the NAP 2020.
New advances have been made, not only Japan but other countries, including China, Korea and European countries, he said.
“We will collaborate with countries that have unique technology.” – February 21, 2020.
