NURUL Izzah Anwar wants to focus on her constituency, Permatang Pauh, and stay away from the political elite, said her father and PKR chief Anwar Ibrahim.

He said this in response to a question at Help University’s ‘The Construct of a Nation: As I See It’ symposium on whether Nurul Izzah would return to active politics on the national front once again.

“She said she wants to focus on Permatang Pauh. I tried to talk to her, persuade her, but I respect the independence of my children. They decide for themselves,” he said.

“Her decision is to stay away from the political elite. Hopefully, she changes,” he said.

“(It’s) not easy as a father to have wife as the boss and daughter with strong views,” he added in jest.

Describing Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as a dedicated and loyal wife, he said she and their children were his source of strength during his days in prison.

Nurul Izzah had told Singapore’s The Sunday Times in March last year that she was serving her final term as a federal lawmaker.
