THE person allegedly awarded the Sungai Intan Water treatment plant contract was not a crony of Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

Rahman also slammed Warisan president Shafie Apdal for his remarks made in Parliament yesterday, saying as the former rural and regional development minister, he should’ve known who had been awarded contracts at the time.

“Everyone knows the project had come from his (Shafie) former ministry and, as the minister then, he must have been aware of all the projects.

“(It is possible) that the person is another person’s crony, and not Musa’s,” he said in Kota Kinabalu today.

Yesterday, Shafie had in Parliament said it was Musa’s nephew had been awarded the Sungai Intan Water treatment project in Semporna.

The project is part of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s investigation into the alleged embezzlement of RM1.5 billion from the ministry meant for Sabah rural projects between 2009 and 2015.

“As I recall, Musa constantly informed the prime minister and federal cabinet members that the ministry headed by Shafie then never informed anyone of their projects in Sabah.

“It is a well-known fact. It is not just because now that he (Shafie) is being investigated, only are we raising the matter. Until today, there are still many people disputing the projects done by the ministry,” he said.

Rahman said if the projects had been undertaken properly, water and electricity supply issues in rural areas in Sabah would be a thing of the past. – November 8, 2017.
