MALAYSIA today confirmed two new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 21, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said today.
The two victims are Chinese nationals.
The first victim is a 27-year-old businessman currently admitted in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Kedah.
He was found to be symptomatic during a health screening at the Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration entry point. The clinical sample was confirmed Covid-19 positive this morning.
The man entered Malaysia on February 14 and was from Guangzhou, China
The 21st case involved a Chinese woman living in Malaysia, with a recent travel history to China.
She was said to have visited the country from January 22 to 30.
On closing down international entry points, Dzulkefly said China has taken the measure of locking down cities, including Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak, since January 23.
“They themselves have locked down, I don’t think we need to add,” he told reporters, adding that stringent screening is conducted on Chinese nationals.
Malaysia has been acting based on the directive of the World Health Organisation.
He added that the country is also prepared to step up precautionary measures.
Four people infected with Covid-19 were discharged from Sungai Buloh Hospital yesterday after making a full recovery, said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said yesterday the number of those recovered fully from the viral infection now stands at seven. – February 15, 2020.
