PAS IS not interested in joining any political coalition aside from the one it already has with Barisan Nasional (BN), party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said today.

The denial comes as rumours swirl that the party is looking to form a new coalition with ruling party Bersatu and fellow opposition pact BN.

“Is there a Pakatan Nasional? PAS and BN are in Muafakat Nasional.

“There is no such thing as Pakatan Nasional, which has suddenly been created without our knowledge,” Takiyuddin told reporters at PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

A leaked audio recording purportedly of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that PAS was attempting to forge an alliance with Bersatu.

In the recording, Zahid said Umno should also cooperate with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Bersatu, partly because PAS is doing so and the party can’t risk being left behind.

However, Zahid yesterday also denied such rumours, adding that Umno did not discuss any possible pact with Bersatu.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said PAS will follow the law when it comes to joining any government.

“There is no such thing as going in through the back door or the front door. Whatever decision we make will be according to the democratic process and the law.” – February 8, 2020.
