Online application for some NRD documents opens July

STARTING July, applications for certain documents with the National Registration Department (NRD) can be made online.

Director-General Ruslin Jusoh said these include registration for identification, birth and marriage.

“The system is now in the testing stage, and we expect to implement it by the middle of the year,” he told Bernama in Putrajaya.

He said the system is part of NRD’s efforts to upgrade Malaysians’ registration records, in line with the security and public order policy.

At present, there are 23,064,172 MyKad and 5,737,215 MyKid holders.

Ruslin said the new system will help resolve the issue of late birth registrations.

Last year, there were 12,174 such applications, with Sabah recording the highest number at 3,331, followed by Sarawak (1,667) and Selangor (1,430), he said.

He added that the overall figure was lower than the 12,548 recorded in 2018, following the deployment of special mobile units in Sabah and Sarawak’s interior.

Ruslin said there were 1,319,979 cases of lost MyKad “due to carelessness” recorded between October 2015 and last month, 363,580 (crime) and 20,410 (disaster).

A RM100 fine is imposed on those who lose the card the first time, RM300 (second) and RM1,000 (third).

For third-time offences, NRD will conduct an investigation before a new MyKad is issued. – Bernama, February 3, 2020.
