A BARISAN Nasional backbencher today urged the Penang government to give every household affected by the flash floods RM2,000 without condition.

Pulau Betong assemblyman Muhamad Farid Saad said the state should also give reasonable sums to schools, houses of worship and others to help them deal with the disaster.

“The money should be from the state consolidated fund. Cash aid is needed now as many have lost their belongings.

“Those in the kampung are badly hit. They will have to replace furnitures and kitchen appliances,” he said at the state legislative assembly sitting this morning

Farid said the special aid should be given without victims having to fill Pakatan Harapan membership forms.

He also said state and federal authorities should also coordinate to send district medical officers to visit affected households to make sure the people were safe and sound.

“They should be provided counselling if necessary,” he said.

Farid gave his proposals in a motion, but he asked for the motion not to be debated.

Speaker Law Choo Kiang said since Farid’s motion would not be debated, it would not be accepted as a motion.

“Since it has been heard in the House, his proposals will be noted and taken to the state government to be discussed by the excos,” he said.

Law then adjourned the sitting until Wednesday morning to allow elected reps to continue flood relief work in their respective constituencies.

The House will rest tomorrow in conjunction with the official visit of UK’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, to Penang. – November 6, 2017.
