SINGER Ika Mustafa is relieved after her medical report results confirmed she is free from the coronavirus (2019-nCov).

The 22-year-old was quarantined in Sungai Buloh Hospital after showing symptoms of the virus following her return from Haikou, China, last Saturday.

Isa said she was isolated for two days and was not allowed to meet family members. She was treated with nurses wearing hazmat suit, an experience she said she would not forget.

“It was like being in a movie. I was all alone. When the medical experts sent me to the ward, the area was empty. They wore hazmat suits, and they had to pass through special doors to get into the ward.

“Nurses would only enter when they want to take my blood pressure, body temperature and to send me food. They used new suit each time they entered. They dispose of the used suit and have to wear a new one,” she told The Malaysian Insight.

The singer is still hospitalised.

Known for her song, Damaikanlah, Ika flew to Haikou on January 25 with 46 other Chinese passengers, including a 60-year-old woman from Wuhan who was ill.

She arrived home with flu-like symptoms of fever and cough.

Ika hoped the public would not create unnecessary panic and expressed her confidence with Malaysia’s efforts handling the outbreak.

She praised the doctors and nurses who treated her for their dedication and commitment.

“Don’t panic. Everything is done according to procedure. The rules are strict. The Health Ministry called me to ask for my flight details, the places I’ve been after coming back and the people I met.

“They will monitor and they’re serious.”

Malaysia currently has a total of seven positive novel coronavirus cases, all of whom are Chinese nationals.

The three latest cases involve a four-year-old child being treated at the isolation ward of Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi; a 52-year-old man being treated at the isolation ward of Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru and a woman.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Department said Chinese nationals from Hubei province, including its capital Wuhan, are temporarily barred from entering Malaysia with immediate effect, regardless of visa status.

“The decision was made in view of the latest development of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak in China, especially in Hubei province, and comes into force immediately,” it said.

The death toll from the virus outbreak has risen to 131, with authorities in central Hubei province reporting 25 new fatalities and 840 new cases. – January 29, 2020.
