NINETEEN PKR Youth leaders, led by the wing’s No. 2, have urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to investigate the violence that marred its congress in Malacca last month.

The group, led by deputy PKR Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham, wrote to RoS saying that proceedings at the annual congress were “unprofessional” and not properly administered.

“As members of AMK (PKR Youth), we decided to report the running of the congress to RoS and ask them to review it.

“We have our doubts over the running of the national congress, which we believe would later be questioned as it did not reflect the professionalism in the manner it should be run,” they said in a joint statement today.

The group said they demand that the congress be reconvened.

“We have attached our sworn statements, police reports and relevant documents to support our claims to the RoS.

“And we are demanding that the 2019 Youth congress be reconvened over the irregularities we are making,” they said.

One of the irregularities the group are asking RoS to investigate, is the sacking of seven members which they say was unconstitutional and did not follow procedures.

The seven, reportedly aligned to party deputy president Azmin Ali, were sacked for allegedly failing to attend six consecutive meetings without explanation. Hilman is also Azmin’s aide.

They are Nagarajan Kaniappan, Ahmad Khairul Mohamed Noor, Mohd Akmal Hisyam Ahmad Tamyiz, Mohd Firdaus Yusoff, Mohd Izad Buqhary Mohd Kamri, Nik Mohd Faris Syazwan Zainuzzaman and Wan Mohamad Fitri Wan Abdul Rahim.

The group of 19 today also voiced their support to embattled party vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, who on January 18 was served a show-cause letter over a speech she made in December criticising PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

PKR, the party with the most seats in parliament in Pakatan Harapan, has been rocked by a feud between Anwar and Azmin.

During the youth wing’s annual congress, fights also broke out between supporters of the two leaders. – January 24, 2020.
