A COMPREHENSIVE plan to reform the healthcare system will be presented to the cabinet by the end of the month, reports The Star Online.
The plan, to be tabled by Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, will include proposals to create a sustainable health financing system, corporatise parts of the government’s healthcare infrastructure and reform the private healthcare industry, the paper said.
The plan is dubbed Sihat Bersama 2030 (healthy together) and is considered the health sector’s version of the Shared Prosperity 2030 national transformation plan.
Dzulkefly reportedly said the plan would deal with problems that have plagued the public healthcare system such as long waiting times and lack of doctors at government facilities.
The plan is also expected to address the challenges of an ageing population and the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases, Dzulkefly was reported as saying.
Once the plan is approved by the Cabinet, a task force will be set up to look into its implementation and consult stakeholders. – January 1, 2020.
