POLICE took into account society’s sensitivities when it ordered the swimsuit segment of a beauty pageant to be scrapped, said Sentul district police chief S. Shanmugamoorthy.

Shanmugamoorthy said organisers of the Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant (Macip) had agreed to the condition as they wanted to proceed with the event as they had incurred cost, money and time.

“But, at the same time, they have a moral duty to ensure the sensitivities (of society) are taken into account.

“I maintain my earlier stand. Anyway the event is over. Let’s not pursue it further,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said it was the police and not City Hall that had demanded that the swimsuit section of the pageant be cancelled.

“I was informed that DBKL had given Astro the approval to organise the swimsuit segment in the Macip competition,” he said.

Lim said licences issued by DBKL were subject to police feedback, and Sentul police had jurisdiction as the event was held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.

He also disagreed with the “petty” condition imposed by the police chief as the segment has been a part of the pageant for 20 years without a problem. – December 23, 2019.

  • Why shouldn't it be pursued further?
You do not have the legal authority to subjugate what is lawful just to placate the wishes of Islamist fanatics.
You should be taken to task.
This is why the IPCMC is long overdue. The PDRM thinks they make the laws in this country, when they clearly don't.

  • We should investigate all forms of corruption in the ranks of the PDRM.
We never know where it might exist.

  • What sensitivities? If it offends you don't come for this event. Ushers at the venue can always filter out any Muslim who attempt to enter the venue. PDRM just don't treat us like small kids and play the morality controller. Catch real crooks for a change. The OCPD needs to be replaced.
