AMANAH must be Pakatan Harapan’s peacemaker, said one of its delegates who urged the leadership to mend ties between warring factions in PKR, its partner in the ruling coalition.

Mohd Fadzil Mohd Ramly from Pahang said Amanah must also help end the power struggle surrounding Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s succession plan.

“Amanah must nurture peace (mendamaikan) in Pakatan. People are sick and tired of seeing the power struggle over the succession plan,” Fadzil said at the Amanah annual convention in Shah Alam today.

“Amanah must also lend help to PKR’s internal crisis,” he said when debating the president’s speech.

PKR is beset with infighting between factions loyal to president Anwar Ibrahim and deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

At PKR’s youth congress yesterday, two fights broke out between rival groups when one attempted to force their way into the venue.

Before that, factions in PKR youth feuded over which leader to launch their congress and over the sackings of its chairman and deputy chairman.

On the succession plan, Dr Mahathir has repeatedly said he will hand over the reins to Anwar midway through PH’s first term in government.

However, there are attempts both within PH and outside it to persuade the 94-year-old to stay until the 15th general election.

Azmin and some leaders from Dr Mahathir’s party Bersatu have publicly pledged their support for him to stay on. – December 7, 2019.
