SHAFIE Apdal, who is subject of a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe, was granted bail today after being held under remand since October 20.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus set bail at RM100,000 in two sureties. Shafie is also expected to report to the the nearest MACC office every month.
The Parti Warisan Sabah president arrived at the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex at 9.25am in a white sedan accompanied by MACC officers.
Hundreds of supporters, including Warisan vice-presidents Peter Anthony and Junz Wong and Youth chief Azis Jamman, gathered there from 8am.
The former Umno vice-president is being investigated for the misappropriation of RM1.5 billion of government funds earmarked for Sabah while he helmed the Rural and Regional Development Ministry between 2009 and 2015.
The Semporna MP might not be able to attend the tabling of Budget 2018 in Parliament this afternoon despite being released today.
Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr told reporters that the party has planned several programmes for him to attend.
“We are glad now that he (Shafie) is freed. He will be able to focus on further strengthening the party.”
Shafie left the court and arrived at his home in Taman Golf View around 12:15pm where he was greeted by about 200 supporters.
He left shortly again for Friday prayers at a nearby mosque. – October 27, 2017.
