ANWAR Ibrahim said two PKR members have disputed the contents of an apology demand sent by 20 central leadership council members over the sacking of Zakaria Abdul Hamid.
The PKR president said parts of the memorandum, which demanded Anwar apologise for the sacking of Zakaria, who is Bera division chief, was being disputed by vice-presidents R. Sivarasa and Tian Chua.
“They did not agree to the part asking me to apologise over the sacking of Zakaria; that part was not in the draft,” Anwar told reporters in Penang today.
The Port Dickson MP said it was possible that the letter had been manipulated, and that those who had signed it were not privy to the final draft or the demands in it.
Anwar said he did not know who had manipulated the memo but felt the signatories should sort the matter out among themselves first.
Anwar said he had no objection to PKR’s disciplinary board reviewing Zakaria’s sacking, as every party member has the right to ask for an appeal or review.
Twenty PKR central committee members have rejected Zakaria’s sacking, citing a flawed process and failure to meet the principles of justice.
In a memorandum to the party disciplinary board, they had said the sacking of Zakaria, who is also a member of the committee, was illegal.
“We, as the elected central committee members for 2018-2021, irrevocably reject Zakaria’s sacking as announced by the disciplinary board chairman Ahmad Kasim,” the memorandum read.
“We, who represent the majority of the central committee members elected by party members, also urge the party president to apologise for this hasty decision that clearly did not get the support of two-thirds of the central committee members.”
Deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and vice-presidents Zuraida Kamaruddin and Tian Chua were among those who signed the memorandum.
The leaders said the disciplinary board had recommended that Zakaria be issued a show-cause letter, not his marching orders.
The leaders said the 20 signatories to the memorandum represented the majority of the committee, who were elected by party members. – November 30, 2019.
