ECONOMIC “hot spots” away from the main urban centres will be nurtured to narrow the wealth gap between regions, said the Economic Affairs Ministry.
These hot spots will be new centres of growth to boost rural incomes, said deputy minister Mohd Radzi Jidin.
The centres will leverage on the promise of high-tech precision agriculture to provide better paying jobs and business opportunities for rural folk, Radzi told the Dewan Rakyat today.
“Right now, 40% of the country’s GDP (gross domestic product) is generated in the Klang Valley and Selangor,” Radzi said in response to Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan).
“So, our focus is to redistribute economic growth more equitably so that people in other parts of the country, especially rural folk can benefit.”
The plan to nurture these hot spots are part of Pakatan Harapan’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 economic agenda that is aimed at reducing wealth gaps between classes, ethnic communities and regions. – November 28, 2019.
