PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim should be left alone to decide on the transfer of power between them, said Daim Zainuddin.
The Council of Eminent Persons chairman said there should not be outside interference in the process.
“Let them decide. We don’t want to interfere,” he told the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute’s (Asli) Poverty in Malaysia: Reality v Perception forum in Subang Jaya today.
The former finance minister was asked by Asli CEO Melissa Ong about his take on the power transition.
Under an agreement struck between Pakatan Harapan parties before the 14th general election, Dr Mahathir will hand over the reins to PKR president Anwar.
No timeline has been fixed for the power transfer, but the two leaders have repeatedly assured that the plan is on track.
On his aspirations for the country, Daim said he wants peace and unity, and the people to truly embrace their Malaysian identity.
He called on citizens to champion diversity and work together in nation-building.
“Let’s fight those who are against it.”
Malaysians should live and die as Malaysians, he added. – November 27, 2019.
