The Pakatan Harapan leadership has accepted that changes need to be made to the cabinet following the coalition’s crushing defeat in the Tg Piai by-election, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Dr Mahathir, who is PH chairman, said a reshuffle would take place in due course in the absence of objections from the PH council.

“They did not object. Nobody said please don’t change me,” he said to laughter, after the PH council meeting today in Putrajaya.

Dr Mahathir said it has not been decided whether PKR president Anwar Ibrahim would have a place in the new line up.

“If I tell you now it will mean that I have decided on the changes,” he said.

Anwar Ibrahim, who was sitting beside Dr Mahathir, interjected with a jocular denial that he had not applied to join the cabinet.

Dr Mahathir broached the possibility of changing the cabinet last week at a Bersatu Supreme council meeting.

“I, as the prime minister, have to be responsible for a cabinet reshuffle. I have heard their views and will consider demands for a cabinet reshuffle.

“It won’t happen today or tomorrow but after we have studied and observed the achievements of the existing ministers.

“We will only discuss the need for a reshuffle after that,” Dr Mahathir had said. – November 23, 2019.

  • I hope the reshuffle will not mean just changing their portfolios. What the rakyat wants is to kick out useless ministers and deputy ministers and replace them with those who could deliver, even if you have to make some of these people Senators.

  • When you bring into the cabinet Jackasses, what do you get. We have many important issues to deal with in Malaysia-corruption is the main one. But besides that we need good educators, our universities are dishing out 600 PhDs -like toilet paper, Minister of Education is looking to promote BM in Nepal, another idiot is trying to start Flying cars? What crap is this ? Where did these guys come from? We need top notch ministers not some kangkong ikan bilis types. We need to have excellent schools educating our young to meet the 21st century needs, we need good medical services to provide for all our citizens, good governance, transparency. We dont need these legislators whose only advise regarding schools in to change students shoes BLACK. This all happened on Mahathirs watch-when you want to control your ministers in the cabinet, then bring in Jackasses-like what PM has done.
