PUTRAJAYA is pushing for a fairer and inclusive nationwide development instead of just focusing on Klang Valley or the west coast, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Najib said Kelantan had been deprived of development funds and a much needed improvement on their water infrastructure because it was an opposition-held state.
“This is not fair as clean water is essential for life and is the right of all Malaysians. We helped Kelantan with a water restructuring agreement last year that will cost more than a billion ringgit,” he said on his blog today.
He said the government is building a toll-free Central Spine Road which would connect Kelantan with the rest of the peninsula as a means to alleviate the sufferings faced by the people due to poor transportation links.
“Phase 3 of the East Coast Expressway will also soon extend to Kelantan.
“The East Coast Rail Link will be yet another game changer for the east coast states,” said Najib.
On Sabah and Sarawak, Najib said the yearly allocations and development projects provided by the government is unprecedented.
“The Pan Borneo Highway will be a huge spur for development and connectivity in East Malaysia,” he said, adding he strived to be fair to all states including ones held by the opposition.
He added the government had water restructuring agreements with Penang and Selangor to help reduce debts held by both states while providing revamps on their water supply infrastructure.
“In the case of Penang, the water restructuring package in 2010 involved helping the state government reduce its debt by RM655 million, while giving them an additional grant of RM1.2 billion to expand a dam.
“This allowed the DAP State Government to boast they reduced their state debt by 95%, although this was due to the government’s efforts,” he added. – October 24, 2017.
