MORE jobs in the government sector, cheap housing and benefits for students could swing more Indian votes to Barisan Nasional in the next general elections, said Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin (PMSP).
PMSP president Ramesh Rao said a nationwide research since 2013 found Indians raised these issues as their main concerns.
“Only 4% of Indians hold administrative posts in the government sector,” he told a press conference at PMSP headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
Rao said more allocation should be given to Indians for the People’s Housing Projects (PPR) as less than 3% of Indians owned such houses.
Last month, Putrajaya announced it was setting aside RM6 billion in next year’s budget for the construction and maintenance of PPR and the price of the units would be subsidised.
Rao said university graduates who excelled should be absorbed into the government while excellent STPM students should be given scholarships to further studies.
“The majority of Indians will support the government if they tackle these issues,” he said.
“(PM) Najib Razak has to be more sensitive to requests made by Indians.” – October 24, 2017.
