THE inspector-general of police (IGP) will not be immune from investigation by the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), said deputy law minister Mohamed Hanipa Maidin.

“All police personnel are not exempt from being investigated by the IPCMC, including the inspector-general of police,” he said in a parliamentary written reply.

Hanipa said all complaints received by the IPCMC against the IGP will be investigated under Section 24,  just like any complaint.

“After the IPCMC concludes its investigation and if any wrongdoing has been found, disciplinary action will be taken against the IGP (which will be) by a special disciplinary board formed by the chief secretary to the government,” he said in reply to Ramkarpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor-PH) on whether the IGP will be immune from action by the proposed police oversight body, as stipulated in the IPCMC Bill. – November 13, 2019.
