PKR president Anwar Ibrahim admits that Pakatan Harapan faces a trust deficit with Tanjung Piai voters, calling for the pact to work harder to ensure victory in the November 16 by-election.

He said the feedback from a briefing by state leaders indicated that voters wanted to teach the ruling pact a lesson for not delivering on its electoral promises.

“I was told the people were divided on our government. There are some who are impatient because we have not delivered as promised and want to use this by-election to send a message to the government.

“We know the contest is tight. Even in the last general election, our margin of victory was small.

“We need to work hard to win again here,” he said while campaigning in Pontian today.

Anwar also said that the PH government inherited a problematic economy from Barisan Nasional, making it difficult for them to do more for the people.

However, he admitted that this should not be used as an excuse for PH’s failure to deliver for the people.

“We did inherit a bad economy but the people here are not interested in listening to this story.

“We are the government now so we will have to sort out their problems,” said the Port Dickson MP, adding that the coalition was aware of the people’s problems and urged the voters to continue to support and give them support to solve the issues.

“So please don’t give your vote away to the opposition. We will work hard to solve all your problems,” he said.

The Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election on November 16 is seeing a six-horse race between Karmaine Saidini (PH), Wee Jeck Seng (Barisan Nasional), Wendy Subramaniam (Gerakan), Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (Barisan Jemaah Islamiah) and two independent candidates: tuition centre founder Dr Ang Chuan Lock and businesswoman Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar. – November 11, 2019.

  • Mahathir has not demonstrated the sincerity to safeguard the wellbeing of the rakyat. Lynas is a total failure in terms of public interest is concerned. How can u say suddenly the rare soil is no threat to human? How can u use economic benefits to offset public health and safety? Dr Mahathir trust level is in deficit as far as Lynas issue us concerned. There are many more key manifesto out right refused to deliver is a stupid reply. Explanation is vague, intention is highly questionable. Must teach PH a lesson, sending a simple message , Manifesto is your promised agenda, fullfil it or tell us if there is delay by when. Don't tellus it's scrapped. We hold PH responsible bcos that's why we voted u in.

Set aside those racial issues and work to boost the economy.
