ECONOMIC Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali has asked PLUS Malaysia Berhad to review its decision to close Touch ‘n Go reload lanes on its tolled highways.
He said PLUS should take into account the difficulties faced by road users, who would be stuck on the road and unable to pay toll, if the reload facilities were removed.
PLUS should find provide options to road users to reload their Touch ‘n Go cards, he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
“I think the consumer’s point of view must be given attention because the facilities (to reload) are meant to provide convenience.
“The decision to close the reload lanes should be reviewed and they should be given other options,” said Azmin, who is also Gombak MP.
PLUS announced its move to halt reload lanes on its highways effective Tuesday, drawing complaints on social media since the decision was implemented.
PLUS said the removal of reload facilities at the toll was to ease traffic congestion and ensure safety of its customer service agents, as there had been cases of heavy vehicles crashing into the booths.
The highway concessionaire added unnecessary delays in traffic were caused by road users stopping to reload their cards, saying one reload transaction took up to three minutes.
As for alternatives, PLUS said its customer service centres and reload facilities at selected toll plazas are still in operation. – November 7, 2019.
