A POLICE report has been lodged against Salahuddin Ayub for making allegedly racist remarks when campaigning for Pakatan Harapan’s Tanjung Piai by-election candidate.

The agriculture and agro-based industry minister is accused of making incendiary comments at a closed-door meeting with Chinese school officials in Kukup Laut when he warned them of the threat posed by the Umno-PAS alliance.

A video clip of Salahuddin’s statement has been uploaded to the Ops Johor Facebook page.

Umno and PAS are campaigning for MCA’s Wee Jeck Seng, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the November 16 by-election.

BN’s main rival is PH, which is fielding Karmaine Sardini of Bersatu.

The report was lodged by members of the BN Women’s wing at the Pontian district police headquarters today.

It urged cops to investigate Salahuddin, who is also Amanah deputy president, under the Election Offences Act 1954 for spreading ill will and enmity, as well as Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1848.

“In the one-minute, 20-second video, Salahuddin is clearly seen trying to scare the public. He openly campaigned by spreading ill will between different ethnic groups and religions,” said the BN Women’s wing in a statement.

“Wanita BN believes that Salahuddin’s racially tinged and chauvinist campaign will spark hatred and spread the fires of racism.”

In the video, the minister is heard telling SJK (C) Pei Chio officials: “Be warned; if BN regains power… they are in league with PAS, this country will be in strife.

“(Now,) we can do business, we can send our kids to school, there is no shooting in the streets. We can’t do business, we can’t go out to sea (if BN retakes power).”

Salahuddin yesterday denied having made racist remarks.

“I reminded them to be careful with a political party using racial sentiments that is now friends with a party that uses religion as a tool. We live in harmony, peacefully, among different races (now).” – November 6, 2019.
