MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission officers have raided Warisan president Shafie Apdal’s house in Taman Golf View, according to his lawyer.
Prior to this, Shafie was discharged from Queen Elizabeth II Hospital at 3pm before being escorted to his home for the raid.
After the search, Shafie was taken back to the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu for more questioning, said Shafie’s lawyer, Norazmi Minhat.
“After the questioning, Shafie will be taken to the MACC lock-up in ‘Mini Putrajaya’,” said Norazmi.
Another lawyer, Loretto Padua Jr, told The Malaysian Insight that the MACC team spent about an hour at Shafie’s house.
“They left around 4pm,” said Padua.
A MACC officer, who declined to be name, confirmed the raid and said that Shafie had been cooperative throughout.
The Malaysian Insight understands that no documents were taken from Shafie’s house.
Meanwhile, Parti Warisan Sabah will hold a candlelight vigil at their head office in Komlombong at 7pm tonight. The vigil is expected to be led by Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking.
Shafie, the former rural and regional development minister, was arrested by the MACC after giving his statement pertaining to a probe into the RM1.5 billion in government funds allegedly siphoned off while he was a federal minister.
Besides Shafie and his two brothers, Hamid and Yusof, others implicated in the case include Warisan deputy president Peter Anthony, youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman, Umno Tenom youth chief Jamawi Jaafar, Umno Tawau youth chief Ariffin Kassim and a 52-year-old businessman from Sabah.
Shafie was remanded for four days starting yesterday. – October 21, 2017.
